A short read on the nicest lady I will ever meet

I wanted to take a moment this afternoon and put some thoughts down. I am often guilty of thinking something nice about my wife and then never letting the thoughts turn into words that I express to her.

If the saying, “It’s the thought that counts” is true then it must only be true if that thought is expressed. In this short read I would just like to express some quick thoughts on my girl, Julia. Julia is the embodiment of so many great traits.

First of all, Julia remains incredibly sweet when she could justifiably get pretty angry. Let’s face it, I am not the most thoughtful guy, and the world hasn’t always been the kindest place, but Julia sure is a forgiving and patient woman. I have never met a kid that didn’t love her, an elderly person who didn’t adore her, a baby who couldn’t be quieted by her, or a friend who didn’t truly believe she cared for them.

She is more creative than Dear Genevieve on an HGTV marathon. I swear this woman can create, fix, remodel, recover, decorate, or beautify anything from a studio apartment to a bomb shelter and make it feel like a home. No matter where we have lived during our last 5 years and 4, soon to be 5, homes, our houses have always felt like home. She decorates with a sense of belonging. She takes ordinary things; she shows the world that they are beautiful, and then she creates a family atmosphere with them as if everything had been there for years and years. I guess that is how she treats people too. She doesn’t see them as ordinary. She sees each individual as a special person who belongs somewhere even if they don’t know it yet.

Julia is the best friend anyone could ever hope to have. It never ceases to amaze me how people open up to her and tell her secrets that they tell no one else. They do that because they trust her. They trust her heart, her concern, and her genuine love for them. Julia is my best friend. (Keegan is a close second; sometimes a very close second.) Julia and I differ in about every opinion, taste, and interest that any two people could differ in, but there is no one I would rather spend a lazy afternoon with, walk through a park with, play catch with, eat dinner with, and just do life with.

5 years of marriage to Julia has been the high honor of my life. Life is always going to do whatever life has always done. Rain falls, and sun shines on us all. I am just pumped that I get to experience it all with my best friend, my truest love, and the kindest lady I have ever met. Happy Anniversary, Julia. I love you to the moon and back.
